もう一つ、戦後からの長い教育が妙な形で結実し、いま現在の自分が理解できないものは価値がないという風潮が定着してしまいました。たいがい、文学など落とし穴だらけでしょう。うっかり理解したらたいへんだという作品が多いです。呼んでいて感銘は受けるけど、読み終わると忘れるというのは、自然な自己防御でした。忘れてもまた本を読むんですよ。読んでもちっとも頭に入らないけれど、なんとなく嫌な感じがするという心地が、読書の醍醐味なんです。
